With Us

The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.

Psalm 46:7

I have been working like a mad woman around the house.  If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you know that we bought a hundred year old fixer-upper house a year ago.  The house was unlivable when purchased and miraculous changes have occurred in our property since then.  The newest project is to restore the sun porch.  I have been staining and putting polyurethane on bead board that will be the new ceiling in the sun porch; it will be awesome!  I have had 56 boards to stain and poly; it has not gone easily, to say the least, and multiple mishaps have occurred, creating stress and filling my mind with, “Okay, what do I do now?  How do I fix this?  How will that work?”  My mind and being were filled with the tasks at hand.

A couple days ago as I worked in the garage for hours, I caught something out of the corner of my eye.  I took a quick glance and got back to work, but I “felt” a tapping on my shoulder….a “Hey, pay attention!”  I turned my head again and really looked at the leaf on the garage floor and  then I thought, “Where did this come from?  I have had the doors shut this whole time.  How did you get in here, little guy?”  I am weird that way…talking to a leaf!  And then I looked at the beauty of the leaf, its simple declaration of the glory of our Lord.  I stopped working and I said out loud in that polyurethane haze of fumes infested garage, “Thank you, Lord, for reminding me that You are here.  When I all I could see was the sea of boards needing to be done, You gently reminded me of your presence and adjusted my visual horizon.”

I love the gentleness of our God.  I love that He is a gentleman that does not push and shove His way into our lives, but sends us reminder gifts of His love and devotion.  I love that our God is with us even in a garage filled to overflowing with wall to wall bead board where He finds what little space is left to wait for us, to show us His beauty, to show us His glory and grace.  He is with us; watch for Him.

Feeling Blessed,

Kay
