Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
“…let us also lay aside…”
This morning as I sat and was reading Ephesians, the verses from the first part of Hebrews 12 came to mind. I was thinking how amazing the Apostle Paul was. We really have no clue what that man truly endured and we read in scripture of him proclaiming joy, praise, peace, love and rarely, if ever, complaining. Life, the living or not living of it, is a choice. I am not talking death and life here. I mean living the life we have been given; or enduring the life we have been given……we decide.
I have some old struggles that rear their ugly heads now and then. As I continue to mature in my walk of faith, I can get discouraged that some old struggles still exist……wonder why I am not free of them yet. I am thinking the answer to those kind of struggles is revealed in Hebrews……”let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely…” I have a choice to make, to either continue to entertain the struggle or lay it aside. It takes action on my part. Instead of the Lord taking the struggle away, I have to choose to lay it down. And every time I pick it back up……I have to choose whether to lay it back down or carry it with me.
I have choices to make. How about you?
