Teach Them

Mom and Us

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Dear Friends, I apologize for my lack of writing and posting in the last few months.  Occurrences of life have demanded my time, energy and attention and on the top of that list has been spending time with my Mom.  As I have posted before, she is 97 years old and each day seems to take just a little more energy and life from her.

The number one word that I would use to describe my mother is “peace.”  There is a peace that surrounds her.  There is a peace the lives wherever she is.  I enjoy just sitting in the same room with her; no where do I find what exists in a room where she dwells.  In these last days of her life I am trying to absorb that tranquility and peace; I can’t imagine my life without her peace.  Though in truth it is not actually her peace but the peace of her Lord, Jesus Christ.  She has spent the major portion of her life filling herself with Jesus and she has shown her children a life lived for the Lord.  Mom was not one to sit and teach her children scripture or give us Bible lessons, but her life did and does speak volumes of the grace and glory of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  Every day of her life she has taught us by example.  Mom has raised three children who all know the Lord.  The three of us each have our own way of expressing our faith and we have all taken our separate journeys, but we were taught by an example that leaves no doubt that God is real and present.

And so I would encourage all parents that children see your faith more than they hear it.  And I pray from the bottom of my heart that my sons saw and see the faith of their parents.  And I lift my heart in gratitude for the gift of faith that Mom shared with her family and those who have been blessed to know her.  What a gift she has given!

  1. As parents, we hope that seed is planted, I personally would love the blessing from God to live long enough to see if that seed ( seeds) grew.
Even though our 4 seeds are dormant? There is always hope through him that they will soon sprout.
