“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord.”
So I am picking back up with my Bible reading where I left off in July. I am reading about the last plague to befall Egypt before Pharaoh finally lets the Israelites go and I come upon something I have not noticed before in reading this passage. God states, “I will bring judgement on all the gods of Egypt.” Hmm, interesting; not people, but gods.
This is a fabulous example of God’s extreme love for His people, all people. Ever hear the phrase, “Love the sinner, hate the sin?” Here it is right in Exodus 12! God’s eyes clearly see this world and the spiritual world; He knows who is trying to take His throne.
It is prayer, not legislation, that will bring God’s Kingdom here on earth. Yes people are wrong in worshipping the gods of lust, greed, hate, violence, mutilation, power, vulgarity, etc., but the fight is not against men but the principalities (gods) we humans have welcomed. Controlling people’s behavior is not the answer but praying for the judgement of the gods we worship is where true change and freedom may be manifest.
The Lord brought judgement upon the gods of Egypt and the Israelites were freed after 430 years of bondage and slavery. Pray for those who are hurting, broken. Do not judge your fellow man, but pray for their freedom, for the chains of bondage to be broken and freedom in Christ to reign in their lives.
