When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession–to the praise of His glory.
I am so grateful that Paul wrote the above words; words that I often turn to for assurance and rest.
I have read this passage often and yet today for the first time my eyes and mind absorbed the word “possession.” I believed, I was sealed with the Holy Spirit to assure my entrance into God’s Kingdom and God took me as His possession; I am owned by Him. Okay so what does that mean? Let’s say that I own a book and someone comes into my house and steals that book, who now owns that book? I still own that book; the other person is just a thief. The book may be in the possession of the thief, but I am still the one who “paid the price” to own the book. Not only that but I had stamped my name on the inside cover of the book; proof of my ownership.
Satan is the great deceiver, the father of lies, and he holds nothing back in pursuing God’s children. I have watched too many brothers and sisters in Christ get lost in this world and tangled in the web of evil’s deception. This passage from Ephesians is God’s contract that He paid for with Christ’s blood and sealed with the Holy Spirit. “When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal…..are God’s possession.” Satan may steal a believer for a time, but that stolen believer is still God’s possession.
Glory to God!
